Dude

Hello everyone - my name is Quinn Rosalie. I was born into this world in quite a hurry! I had my Mommy and Daddy quite fooled, when I decided to come join them 4 weeks early...and in such a hurry that the paramedics helped me join the world at home!! The doctors have told my mommy and daddy that I have Junctional Epidermolysis Bullosa - Herlitz. I spent 36 days in the NICU at Akron Children's Hospital and have recently been accepted into the clinical trial at the University of Minnesota's Amplatz Children's Hospital's for a bone marrow transplant. I got my new bone marrow on December 9, 2011, from an international donor. I spent 7 weeks in the hospital before my transplant getting big, strong and healthy! It gave the doctors a tremendous opportunity to learn all about me! I am the first child in the world to be transplanted this early (4 months old) for this condition (EB) and with a new reduced intensity chemo protocol. I am only the 19th to ever have been transplanted and the 3rd with JEB - Herlitz. My fabulous doctor - Dr. Tolar - likes to tell my parents he is learning so much from me about how to treat EB, and more specifically JEB - Herlitz. We hope that my treatment works out better than anyone could expect and signifies a turning point for EB. An awakening of sorts - that treatment ultra early is the BEST.
My family truly appreciates all the love, support and prayers we recieve from everyone - thank you! With love and God's abundant blessings, Quinn
Let me start by explaining my connection to the sweet little baby.
Many of you personally know that I am a big boy and I have participated in a local Toledo contest in which I compete to lose weight against others and if they beat me, they win money.
This week, two of my friends that I met have discussed a child named Quinn with a rare disease called EB (Epidermolysis Bullosa). This is a horrible disease that I am not going to even attempt to explain. Just take a moment of your time to look it up please.
These 2 people do not even know each other, so as usual, I took it as a message that the Charity Dude needed to get involved.
