About the Charity Dude
My real name is Jason, I have 2 beautiful girls ages 8 and 11, and I live in Perrysburg, Oh.
My spouse Kristie is a 14 year pet groomer and currently works as the grooming manager
at Petco on Monroe St.
I was born in Illinois an attended have attended over 10 different schools in my k-12
career. I got into trouble for stealing as a kid and spent time in a Michigan juvenile facility.
As a young adult, I got into some trouble for stealing and deceptive practice, I spent a little
time in jail.
After getting my life fairly straight, something amazing happened in 1998. Kristie and I had
a 3lb 13oz baby girl. Turned my life around. Don't get me wrong, I am still as politically
incorrect as they come, but I have a great outlook on life. In 2000 I had another baby girl.
Beginning in 1998 I started do a significant amount of volunteering for several different
organizations, and just helping people on a personal level. That is when this great pride in
what I was doing took over a little bit.
In 2004 after both Kristie and my fathers passed away, I realized just how short life was.
In November 2004, I closed my sports card store and decided to pull a crazy charity event
to help at risk children receive a wonderful Christmas. I spent 26 days in a porta potty in
the middle of a gas station parking lot. The final day they transported me on a trailer to a
Walmart. It was the day after Thanksgiving. 24 hours a day for 26 days in a 4X4 outhouse
with freezing temperatures, I slept curled up in the corner and never stepped out.
That year we raised a record amount of money for that program. All I kept thinking is how
others had it worse.
Forward fast to now, I spend my days taking care of my kids and figuring out the next
charity event I can organize to help others in need. Since I have been back to Ohio, I have
held events for LLS, LAF, Petco Foundation, and have started programs to help people
without jobs.
In 2010, I am dedicating my time to some new groups: St. Jude's, Children's Miracle
Network, The Hope Lodge in Cleveland, Toledo Area Humane Society, Humane Ohio, The
Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and the Toledo Seagate Food Bank. I hope to add more
over time.
Also in 2010, Charity Dude hopes to become a 501 c 3. This will help me to help the little
people. I love helping these great organizations, but there are so many in need on a
personal level and I want to do all I can.
I have assembled a great team to help in these missions. Thankfully, all of them are more
presentable than myself. As you see by my photos page, I am quite the big boy. I hope
that through our efforts, and the participation of the Toledo area, Charity Dude will be able
to show a significant gain in the generosity and heart of the Toledo area.
I promise you 2 things. I will never give up on what I believe is right and I will never trade
my values for political correctness. Someone needs to shake things up. Maybe that is how
we can get things done.
Your Friend
Jason, The Charity Dude
